The Dances We Teach

Sequence

Many dances of different rhythms set in a pattern of steps which make it easy for the beginner to learn.  Sequence dancing is a very sociable and enjoyable experience and builds confidence quickly as the pupil learns the basics of footwork and good posture.

Ballroom

Slow Waltz - the waltz is the dance most people think characterises ballroom dancing.  It is danced in ¾ time, hence the rhythmical rise and fall and gracefulness of the movement.  The couple should move as one, never breaking the contact that forms the classic ballroom hold.  The waltz embodies romance, elegance and style.

Tango - the tango brings a touch of Latin passion to the ballroom dancing world. Slow walks are alternated with sudden fast action which gives the dance its light and shade.  Tango evokes desire, passion and strength.

Viennese Waltz- an elegant stately dance with few steps and demands a sense of control and direction.  Based on rotation, it is reminiscent of beautifully gowned ladies in a sparkling Austrian ballroom.  Viennese Waltz conveys perfectionism, grace and finesse!

Slow Foxtrot - a gliding sophisticated dance which evokes images of Fred and Ginger.  Timing varies between slows and quick’s and the dance must look effortless.  Foxtrot is the epitome of exuberance and class.

Quickstep - the fastest ballroom dance with quick kicks and flicks.  An opportunity to show off some fancy footwork, sure to get the adrenaline flowing.  Quickstep is sparkling, vibrant and full of fun.

Latin

Cha cha cha - An ideal introduction to Latin dancing, cha cha cha is cheeky, fun, and light-hearted.  The couple express their delight in each others company with fun easy to learn steps which consist of chasses, forward and back movements, turns and most important, hip action !

Samba - The carnival dance of Brazil.  It is the most explosive and celebratory dance.  It’s a wild collision of African steps and Brazilian rhythms that have become hugely popular all over the world.  Learn and enjoy !

Rumba - The most romantic dance, it tells the story of seduction between the man and woman.  Rhythm is everything and the couple should be connected in the dance and with the music.  Rumba burns up the floor with an irresistible mixture of passion and rhythm.  Bet you can’t wait !

Paso Doble - This wonderful Spanish dance portrays the man as the Matador and the woman his cape.  A deadly serious dance charged with emotion and intensity. A great satisfaction can be achieved in mastering the Paso Doble.

Jive - There are many forms of jive and you can learn a social version, loosely based on rock n roll and swing, or the fast paced competitive version.  Dancers can show off a wide variety of moves, reminiscent of jitterbug, lindy hop and America in the jazz crazed 1920s.  Learn this dance and amaze your friends!

Mambo and Salsa - Relaxed social or club Latin dances based on loose movements and concentrating on moving those hips to the fabulous music.  A great way to start Latin dance and lose your inhibitions!

Dancercise

All dance is great exercise as you use lots of different muscle groups, toning without even realising it!  However, if you really want to up the tempo, a dancercise class allows you to get aerobically fit , combining dance moves with keep fit, all to good music and in a fun atmosphere.  Salsa, cha cha cha, jive and samba, are all transformed into easy to learn line routines where no partner is required.  See schedule for further information
